Reddit User Creates Physical Game Copies on SSDs
An enthusiast turned old solid-state drives into physical counterparts of digital games.
A Reddit user has carried out a project that could be called a true Steam machine. He bought a batch of old SSDs and used them to create physical versions of popular PC games.
The corresponding games were installed on each drive. Additionally, a script was set up that automatically opens the page of the selected game in the Steam client library when the drive is connected.
This experiment demonstrates an alternative approach to storing and launching games, recalling what the video game market might look like if digital distribution had not displaced physical media.
